SMU Admission Volunteers
The SMU Admission Volunteers program allows alumni to aid in the University’s recruitment efforts in their local areas. Alumni serve as the best representatives of the SMU experience to prospective students and parents. Share your experiences and encourage future Mustangs in your city to apply and attend SMU.
- Attend Events: Attend a Preview Party or Accepted Student Reception or recruitment reception, hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admission in your city or on campus
- Contact Admitted Students: Correspond with admitted students in your area to encourage enrollment
- Refer A Mustang: Put a prospective high school student in touch with his or her SMU Admission Counselor.
- Represent SMU: Represent SMU at a local college fair for prospective students
Time commitments vary according to the opportunity. Late summer and spring is when you will have the opportunity to participate in admission events and spring is when you will communicate with admitted students. College Fair coverage is needed throughout the year.
Interested alumni and parents are invited to join SMU Admission Counselors for a special training session during Homecoming weekend! Counselors will review the basics of representing SMU at a local college fair, discuss what's new on campus and provide guidance on answering prospective student and parent questions. More information is to come on our 2017 Training Session. This in-person training session is not mandatory for all volunteers. All SMU Admission Volunteers will receive e-handbooks and guidelines after signing up for the program.
Applying is easy! Just fill out our volunteer interest form and choose SMU Admission Volunteers as your role of interest. Once you submit this form, a member of the Office of Alumni Engagement team will be in touch with you to discuss the next steps!
